Welcome to Year 6
Hello and welcome to Willow Class! I am Miss Morrissey and I will be supported by our two wonderful teaching assistants, Miss Harrod and Miss Merrin. Together, we are looking forward to helping you learn, grow, have fun and make lots of wonderful memories during your final year of primary school.
We have an exciting year ahead, packed with new experiences, adventures and opportunities to learn!
Autumn Term – Britain’s Got Talent
We will begin the year by exploring our Britain’s Got Talent topic. We will learn about some of the incredible people who have changed Britain and discover the stories behind their achievements.
We are also looking forward to a trip to Blackpool, where we will explore its famous tourism industry and find out why people have visited Blackpool for generations.
And, of course, we have our residential trip in October to look forward to! We can't wait for the adventures, challenges and memories we will make together.
Spring Term – Glorious Greece
In the spring, we will travel back in time and explore Glorious Greece! We will discover what life was like in Ancient Greece, explore its fascinating culture and learn about the influence Greece has had on the world.
We will also visit the airport, where we will learn about the many different jobs and careers within the travel industry.
Summer Term – House of Wisdom
Our summer topic will be House of Wisdom, where we will discover the incredible achievements of Islamic Civilisation.
We will explore the people, ideas, discoveries and inventions that helped shape the world we live in today. There will be lots of opportunities to ask questions, investigate and be inspired by the achievements of the past.
We have so much to look forward to in Year 6, and I can't wait to see Willow Class grow in confidence, independence and knowledge throughout the year.
Getting Ready for High School
Year 6 is also a very important year as we prepare for the exciting next step: high school. We will support every child throughout this transition, helping them to develop their confidence, independence and resilience and ensuring they feel ready for the changes ahead.
We know that moving to high school can feel both exciting and a little daunting, so we will make sure there are plenty of opportunities to prepare, ask questions and talk about any worries along the way.
As the end of the year approaches, we will have plenty of opportunities to celebrate everything we have achieved together. We will have lots of fun, make special memories and, of course, have the chance to show off our talents in our end-of-year production!
We have so much to look forward to in Year 6, and I can't wait to see Willow Class grow in confidence, independence and knowledge throughout the year.
